Billionaire: Miami Has ‘Extraordinarily Safe Streets,’ One Of Most Vibrant Cities In World
Billionaire Ken Griffin has revealed new details about a mixed-use Brickell supertall tower his company is planning, while also continuing to praise the region.
Griffin’s Citadel relocated to Miami in 2022, and he is now planning a new headquarters building for the company.
“That’s going to be around a $2.5 billion tower,” Griffin told Bloomberg.
Construction will probably start in mid to late next year, he added. Financing will be decided next year as well.
In addition to serving as a headquarters space for Citadel, the building will offer office space for other firms as well as a luxury hotel.
Griffin is certain he will be able to fill the building, saying Miami has a huge deficit of Grade A office space after an influx of firms to the area over the past several years.
When asked if he was planning to buy more property in the area, the Citadel founder answered indirectly.
“South Florida has something that the rest of the world wants,” Griffin said. “It has oceanfront property in a state with extraordinarily safe streets, great schools, strong sense of community, great cultural institutions.”
“Miami is one of the most vibrant cities in the world,” he added. “With respect to a real estate portfolio, you would be hard pressed to beat the returns of real estate in South Florida over the last seven years.”
